How To Understand the GHG Protocol Baseline Report

How to View GHG Protocol Baseline Report in Sustained

Clicking on Volume in the top menu will open a modal with five choices. If you select Baseline, you will be redirected to the Baseline Overview.

If a baseline is already set for the active workspace, you will be taken to your baseline footprint report, which consists of a dashboard and a full report. The creation flow will also redirect you here once the calculation is finalised. By default, the PEF Production report will be selected, but you can click on the GHG Protocol emissions tab to view the GHG Protocol baseline emissions, which will be the focus of this article.

The dashboard summarises the key takeaways from the report:

  • Total emissions estimated (Scope 1, 2, and 3)

  • Summary of the number of units produced and the reference year

  • Scope 1 / 2 / 3 breakdown in kg CO2e and percentage

  • GHG Protocol graph showing the contribution across all scope categories

This can be toggled to a table view, where biogenic emissions are reported separately, detailed explanations of what is in and out of scope are provided, and optional reporting categories such as individual emissions are included.

The data in the table can be exported as a CSV file for further analysis by clicking on the ‘Export as CSV’ button at the top-right corner.

It’s important to remember that this report focuses on product-related emissions only and is not intended as a full Scope 1, 2, and 3 assessment. Scope 1 and 2 calculations rely mostly on secondary data, so they should be used as a reference only.

From this overview dashboard, you can click on ‘See full report’ to access the detailed GHG Baseline report.

The full report follows a similar structure to the PEF Production Baseline Report, with the LCIA tab replaced by a Results section that shows the same data as the overview (GHG Protocol graph and table breakdown by Scope 3 category). The report also includes the following appendices:

  • Global Warming Potential Factors

  • Organisational Boundaries Assumptions
