How to Understand the GHG Protocol Report

How to View GHG Protocol Reports in Sustained

From your Products tab, click on the report icon for the product you wish to generate a report for. This will take you to the Impact Report Overview.

By default, you'll be viewing the PEF report. To view the GHG Protocol emissions assessment, select GHG in the dropdown at the top. This will display a simple dashboard with the estimated Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions for the product.

Please note that this covers only product-related emissions and is not intended as a full Scope 1, 2, and 3 assessment. Scope 1 and 2 calculations primarily rely on secondary data and should therefore be used as a reference only.

The dashboard summarises the following key details:

  • Product Overview: Product name, net amount, number of servings, product type

  • Total Estimated Emissions: Total emissions as well as scope 1, 2, and 3 breakdown in kg CO2e and % of total.

  • First Party Data level: Warns the user if the product is incomplete (draft), if screening threshold hasn't been met (defaults were applied on behalf of the customer), or whether 100% first party data was achieved meaning this results of the assessments can be used externally.

  • Scope 1 / 2 / 3 Breakdown: Detailed emissions breakdown including scope 3 sub-categories with total emissions excluding biogenic and biogenic emissions reported separately. Each sub-category can be expanded to understand what is included and what isn't in our assessment.

  • Optional reporting: individual gas emissions as well as avoided emissions from recycling
  • GHG Protocol Graph: Visual representation of emissions across all in-scope categories.

This data can be exported as a CSV file for further analysis by clicking the ‘Export as csv’ button at the top-right corner of the table.

From this overview, you can click ‘See Scope 3 Assessment’ to view the detailed report for this product. The detailed report will only be available if your product contains 100% first-party data. If the first-party data percentage is below 100%, the full report will be disabled, and a warning will appear indicating that the screening LCA threshold has not been met.

The full report follows a similar structure to the PEF Report, with the LCIA tab replaced by a Results section that displays the same data (GHG Protocol graph and table breakdown by Scope 3 category). The report also includes different appendices:

  • Global Warming Potential Factors

  • Organisational Boundaries Assumptions
